August 8th, 2011President’s Message, August 2011
August 8th, 2011
As I write this, memories of our past two rallies are still fresh — Cooperstown in late June and East Aurora in mid-July. Cooperstown was a great destination; and the small Glimmerglass State Park, a surprisingly lovely and interesting spot. Between raindrops, we saw some great sights: the Farmer’s Museum, Fenimore Art Museum, Hyde Hall State Historic Site, and Wood Bull Antiques in Milford.
Our co-hosts in East Aurora were John & Esther Dona and Dave & Catherine Smith. The Firemen’s Field in East Aurora was quite private and well-appointed with a large rec. building and kitchen where the Donas’ daughter Debbie prepared and served several of our meals. Groups of Airstreams clustered under the trees for shade, and we enjoyed our tour of the Roycroft Campus and other sites in the town, despite record hot days.
Coming up are the August rally at Turning Stone RV Park; September installation rally at Hammondsport Firemen’s Field; and the New York State Rally in Ulster Co. Planners for all these events are working hard to make each of them interesting and fun. I sincerely hope we will see you at some or all of these events. If you are new members and have not yet attended one of our rallies, we continue to look forward to meeting you and showing you how much fun, fellowship, and adventure is available at our get-togethers.
Unfortunately, the Fowlers will not be able to attend the installation ceremonies (due to our granddaughter’s birthday) and the NY State rally (due to previous commitments). We will miss you and send our best wishes for good times at those events. Meanwhile, I am working with Dave Horn to brain-storm rally ideas for next year. If you are not at the meeting next weekend at Turning Stone, where we hope to hear about everyone’s ideas for 2012, please send yours along to Dave.
Donna Smith, who was our representative in DuQuoin, tells us that after the Delegate’s Meeting at International, a discussion was held about the Constitutional changes, which were slated to be voted on in 2011 and which were postponed until next year so that units have more time to consider the changes. She brought home some interesting opinions which were expressed by unit representatives. It may be that we will want to revisit this vote in our 2012 business meeting in order to incorporate some of the ideas she heard in DuQuoin. WBCCI President Barry Heckenswiler announced that he WILL place the Constitutional revision on the 2012 agenda.
Tom and I are off to the Woodsmen’s Carnival Rally in PA this weekend,
See you down the road.
